“A Nation,” ventures Leopold Bloom in Ulysses, “is the same people living in the same place.” But how do nations – and nationalisms – present themselves in performance spaces? This discussion considers how national politics, cultural contexts and even local resources create an image of nations through the lens of scenography - whether by accident or design. Are national realities present in even abstract creations? Featuring contributions from Switzerland, Venezuela and Catalonia we ask what ideas of a nation are projected, developed and exchanged in this imagined place. Moderator: Peter Crawley (IR). The Irish Times
Panellists: Thorunn S. Thorgrimsdottir (Island), Bibiana Puigdefàbregas (Catalonia), Claudia Rüegg (Switzerland), Juan Souki, Jesús Hernández (Venezuela).
